Waltz

The Waltz is a classic dance characterized by its rotating motion paired with a rise and fall. This is danced in a ¾ time signature.

Viennese Waltz

A notable trait of the Viennese Waltz is its speed. This dance comes from Vienna.

Tango

From the streets of Buenos Aires, Tango is a very passionate and dramatic dance. Of the different styles, we teach American Tango. 

Foxtrot

The Foxtrot is a gliding dance with a casual feel. It can be danced with a bit of a bounce or more smooth, like the Waltz. 

Rumba

Known as the “dance of love”, Rumba is a slow and sensual dance with Afro-Cuban roots. 

Cha Cha

Cha Cha is a bright and lively dance! The name is said to have come from the sound of heels dancing across the floor. 

Swing

Did you know there are different styles of swing dance? Originating from the Lindy Hop, both East Coast and West Coast Swing have unique characteristics. East Coast Swing has more of a bounce and West Coast Swing is a smoother dance. 

 

Hustle

The Hustle originated in the 1970’s, but is still danced today. Related to swing dancing, this dance is high energy and dynamic. 

Salsa

Salsa is an energetic dance that is very connected with the music. Of the different styles, we teach Salsa “On 1”.  

Bachata

Bachata is a dance that originated in the Dominican Republic, but is danced all over the world. 

Merengue

The national of the Dominican Republic, Merengue is made up of simple steps with a marching feel.

Social dance is meant for everyone to connect and have fun together on the dance floor. Used in many settings, such as parties, dance clubs, weddings, events, galas and more. It can also be categorized as the non-competitive form of ballroom and latin dancing. 

Moving your body is a great mood builder. Dance lessons will help get you moving and build confidence. Stepping out onto a dance floor can be an intimidating feat, but it doesn’t have to be! Whether or not dancing comes naturally, lessons are a perfect way to have fun, while creating a strong mind/ body connection. 

Comfortable shoes with good ankle support are great for dancing. Whether gym shoes or dress shoes, a smooth sole will be most ideal. We suggest bringing a change of shoes for lessons, especially due to the ever changing weather in Chicago.  

The intro lesson will begin with a consultation, so we can get to know you and your dancing goals. If you are preparing for a special event, we will go over details. Then we will get dancing!
